One Desire Fast is HMCC’s annual fast so we can start off the year hearing from God, both individually and as a church. This year’s theme is Simple Pursuit.
Congratulations! We have reached the final day of our One Desire Fast together. What an incredible journey it has been as a church family. Having explored the characteristics of the Triune God – God the Father, God the Son and God the Holy Spirit, we hope that each devotional revealed a facet of His nature, inviting us into a deeper relationship defined by simplicity and love.
Through this fast, we have also intentionally stripped away distractions and complexities, focusing instead on the beauty of simply pursuing God. As we conclude this fast, we must be aware that we are returning to the same world that we were in before the fast. It is easy to revert back to our old patterns, including busyness and distractions that again complicate our faith journey. The urgency of life gets to us – whether it’s juggling work, family, and church commitments – and they can drown out the clarity we have gained. But here’s the good news: pursuing God isn’t about striving harder; it’s about resting in Him as we take steps of obedience on a daily basis. Let’s hold onto that truth!
As we look ahead to the rest of the year, what is God depositing in your life? Let God remind you of how you can focus and turn to Him as you face the coming season. In fact, each day presents an opportunity to cultivate a deeper relationship with God by spending intentional time with Him. Consider establishing small but meaningful practices, such as starting your day with scripture, seeking accountability with prayer, or scheduling worship times with Him. The simple pursuit of God can truly be a daily practice; it’s not about grand gestures but about genuinely seeking Him, creating space for God in our daily routines and living out our faith in obedience.
In our pursuit of God, we must also remember the call of making disciples and building His Kingdom. As a church, we are not merely individuals on separate journeys; we are a community united by our mission to share Christ with others. Discipleship means we’re being discipled and making disciples – opening our lives to others proactively and also walking alongside one another, encouraging us to keep following Jesus and equipping each other to live out our faith boldly. Our heart is to transform lost people into Christ’s disciples in the same way that God has reached out and rescued us! Together, we can transform our campus, our city, and the world.
We invite you to engage in this mission by actively participating in your LIFE Group, getting involved in our church through ministry teams and missions projects, and continuing to pray for the Saturate Vision. Let’s continue to pursue God – embracing our identity as His disciples and spreading the message of Christ to all nations, locally and globally. As we move forward, may our hearts remain steadfast in our commitment to live out the Gospel and reflect His love in our community. Thank you for being part of this journey! We’re excited for all that God will do as we pursue Him this coming year.
