One Desire Fast is HMCC’s annual fast so we can start off the year hearing from God, both individually and as a church. This year’s theme is Locked In.
As our fast draws to a close, let’s look back on a season of being intentionally Locked In. For nearly three weeks, we’ve put aside distractions to truly make God our one desire. We have feasted on His Word, poured out prayers, and surrendered comforts. Now, let’s ask ourselves: What did God say?
This Locked In posture was meant to help us realign to what is in God’s heart and make Him our anchor. We have gathered in purpose, aimed to grow in dependence, and created space to truly listen. Perhaps it was a single verse that kept returning, or a theme of His faithfulness or His heart for the lost. Maybe it was a gentle conviction calling for repentance or a clear directive about how to give of our time or go in faith. Beyond any single decision, it may have sparked a renewed burden for a person or a clearer vision of our role in reaching the generations to come. So let’s take a moment now to reflect. If we don’t, what we’ve gained could quickly fade away.
Let’s take time today to actively remember. Let’s read through our journals and recall the prayers we lifted and the scriptures that sustained us. The clarity we gained, the perseverance we built, the new space we created, these are not random outcomes. They are personal words from a personal God. He has been speaking. Have we written it down? Have we thanked Him for it? The prophet Habakkuk instructs us, “Write down the revelation and make it plain on tablets so that a herald may run with it” (Habakkuk 2:2). What we have received is not just for us; it is a message to be carried. We have been locked in for more!
Reflection and Application
- In the quiet of being Locked In, what was the main distraction or competing desire that surfaced in your heart? What does that reveal about what you were truly anchored to?
- Through the fast, what truths about who God is (and who you are) are you most grateful for while you were locked in? How have these realizations impacted your relationship with Him?
Prayer Requests
- Pray for a hungry spirit to desire to seek Jesus and His kingdom first and more
- Pray to internalize those convictions that God has given us with His wisdom and strength
- Pray to surrender fully to God and to faithfully intercede for the burdens placed on your heart during this fast
