One Desire Fast is HMCC’s annual fast so we can start off the year hearing from God, both individually and as a church. This year’s theme is Locked In.
The finish line is in sight! But, the true purpose of a race isn’t to stop running. It’s to build the endurance for the marathon ahead. This fast ends, but how you continue matters more. The crucial question now is not “What did I give up?” but “What will you do?”
If we stop here, this fast was merely an exercise. But if we take what we’ve built, whether it’s the spiritual clarity, the prayer muscle, the sharpened desire for God, and channel it into our everyday lives, then this season becomes the launching pad for transformation and more to come! This is the difference between a short-term spiritual sprint and lifelong faithfulness. God didn’t call us to be Locked In for 20 days, He called us to be Locked In for a lifetime with our hearts anchored to His purposes.
This is why we go through what we believe as a church. Being Locked In wasn’t an isolated event, it was training for how we live out the Gospel in every dimension. We gather not out of routine, but from a place for a community with a shared mission to be built. We grow not for our own, but for Christ to be known. We give not from our surplus, but from the trust that God is our true provider and He is the one giving us our time, treasure, and talents. We go not due to striving, but with purpose, beyond comfort and the confidence that the One we’ve been seeking goes before us. We reach generations as an active calling, investing in those who will carry the faith forward.
The perseverance you built over these weeks is the same muscle you’ll need to disciple a friend, to serve consistently, to forgive deeply, and to pray without giving up. This is how we mature as disciples and impact the world for Christ.
So what’s your next step? It starts by refusing to lose the Locked In focus you’ve gained. Protect your time with God. Sustain the prayer habit. Reinvest the resources. Carry the clarity into your relationships and your calling. The fast provided the focus; now you carry it forward. Your Locked In faithfulness today plants the seed for a harvest you may not see for years—a harvest of transformed lives, strengthened communities, and generations who come to know Jesus because you chose to keep living with a Locked In heart long after the fast was over.
Reflection and Application
- Take a moment to reflect. If someone were to ask you, “How was your fast?” what would your 30-second answer be? Write down your key praises and ongoing prayers, then practice sharing them in a clear, concise and Christ-centered way!
- Carve out 15–30 minutes today to intentionally prepare your heart to break the fast. If we only think about the food or rush to finish, we risk losing the spiritual momentum we’ve built. Use this time to thank God for His presence and faithfulness throughout these weeks. Invite Him to help you close this season well, sealing the lessons in your heart and guiding your steps forward with renewed purpose.
Prayer Requests
- Thank God for the fast and praise Him for how He has sustained and led you over the fast.
- Pray for the faith to follow through on what God has spoken to you throughout the fast!
- Pray for a renewed spirit of seeking God in our everyday lives, to carve out the time and space to lock in and be with God.
