Passion Week 2025 Devotional (Day 1 – Palm Sunday: The Triumphant Entry: Making Jesus Our King)

Redeemed banner - Easter 2025

Join us to go through Jesus’ journey to the cross as we prepare for Easter this year! Our theme this year, “Redeemed”, reminds us of the truth that through the cross and His resurrection, we are delivered, restored, and made new. Once lost, we are now found – redeemed and chosen by His grace.

Matthew 21:4-5 ESV

4 This took place to fulfill what was spoken by the prophet, saying, 5 “Say to the daughter of Zion, ‘Behold, your king is coming to you, humble, and mounted on a donkey, on a colt, the foal of a beast of burden.’”

Welcome to Passion Week! As a church, let’s reflect on the true meaning of Easter. Imagine the weight of the world resting on Jesus as He approached Calvary. His sacrifice on the cross and His victorious resurrection are not just historical events—they are the foundation of our hope and faith, the very reason we can experience a redeemed life! This week isn’t just about inviting others to celebrate; it’s about internalizing the profound events that led Jesus to Calvary. No matter how we have been in our faith, let’s open our hearts to prepare for Easter!

Jesus’ triumphant entry into Jerusalem is a profound moment of recognition and celebration. Crowds waved palm branches, proclaiming Him King and seeking redemption from oppression. This event signifies not only His kingship but also the fulfillment of prophecy, demonstrating that Jesus is the long-awaited Messiah (Zechariah 9:9). As He rode in on a humble donkey, He challenged our expectations of power and authority.

As today is Palm Sunday, let’s ask ourselves: how do we live our lives as if Jesus is our king who has redeemed us? Is He the reigning authority in our daily decisions, relationships, and priorities? Welcoming Jesus as our King means surrendering our desires and ambitions, and acknowledging His sovereignty over every aspect of our lives. This calls for consistency, not just when there are serving opportunities or church events.

As a church, let’s take a moment to pause and internalize the significance of Jesus’ kingship over all we do. His reign should be evident from the ways we serve Him through our discipleship relationships, LIFE Groups and church activities. Everything we undertake is for His glory, and recognizing this truth transforms our approach to ministry and community.

Let’s recommit to making Jesus our King and kickoff this Passion week holding on to this truth. Commit to pausing regularly throughout the day, inviting Him into your decisions or praying a short prayer to seek dependence on our King before anything else. May we internalize His redemptive work and align our hearts with His purpose, proclaiming boldly that Jesus is King over everything we do.
